Sunday Bloody Sunday

by Katie on February 21, 2010

I awoke this morning feeling like death following a splendid night at The Mayfair Tavern with choice chums. My throat ached, my head felt fuzzy, I coughed and spluttered and I had a temperature. My boyfriend helpfully commented (on the smallish true fact) that I had a hangover but no, it’s an illness. I dragged myself out of bed reluctantly as I promised to meet a friend at Hammersmith Vintage Fair. Held once a month at Hammersmith Town Hall, the place is a mecca for vintage clothing fiends, stylists, designers and collectors and is teeming with incredible finds and a wide price range to boot. It’s overwhelming to the untrained eye (or those with a burgeoning lurgy) as there’s just so much choice – should I go for the ’50’s midnight blue wiggle dress, the ‘Mad Men’ emerald green with gold brooch or the ’70’s diaphanous floral Stevie Nicks number? In this case, it was a late ’60’s, cream slub satin with gold bugle bead dress that won out. Victorious with my trophy purchase, I could slope off home to bed knowing that no lurgy illness can stop me from securing a prize vintage find. Which is exactly what I did. I type this at home, in bed, leaving my friend to trail through rails at vintage heaven. There’s always next month. *sigh*

All I could possibly do today was eat wotsits and watch telly! fashionista fail! I may look the part (heh!) but I lack the killer instinct. Oh well… x
