My heart is pounding and would pound more if I had the money and lifestyle to afford the luxuries of this one, or if I even had an exclusive invitation to the launch.

Louis Vuitton, iconic French monogrammed brand, is set to open their fabulous new emporium, New Bond Street Maison in London on 28th May 2010. It is being sold to the fashion world as the most important date in Louis Vuitton’s 125-year association with London – a city that Patrick Louis Vuitton says is naturally associated with international travellers. The opening of the New Bond Street Maison is perfectly attuned to the new twenty-first century mood of a city that Louis Vuitton president Yves Carcelle describes as “one of the most important fashion and cultural cities in the world. It brings together innovation, heritage and fashion – all values that are important to Louis Vuitton.”

The New Bond Street Louis Vuitton Maison ranges over three floors and encompasses a stonking 1520 square metres of retail space at the junction of New Bond Street and Clifford Street (that’s right nearby Cecconis, lovelies). It is termed as the most luxurious Louis Vuitton store to date, worldwide. To design the project, Louis Vuitton enlisted New York-based architect Peter Marino, and, by God, you’d swear he’d just stepped out of a Tom of Finland artwork – all leather clad, moustached and wearing aviator shades.

Marino has worked on previous Louis Vuitton stores including the Champs-Elysées Maison. His master vision for the London site was for it to be exceptionally luxurious, both open, light and welcoming but intimate and easy to navigate with different areas and levels on each floor, allowing the customer to browse seamlessly from one area to another. His vision is to enter the Louis Vuitton world from the street outside over a bridge giving views of a dramatic glass staircase with 23 square meters of glass tread surface including LEDs to show frequently-changing film and artistic animations that take you from the lower ground right up to the first floor.

The New Bond Street Maison is conceived as the home of a collector who loves only the best and rarest but I’ll bet it will become a luxury store mecca for browsers ogling the lifstyle. Glass stairs to the lower ground floor open the way to the men’s universe, at the centre of which is the men’s club area where customers and their guests can relax – now if that doesn’t sound homoerotic I don’t know what does. Mr Marino’s vision is coming all too clear.

The first floor will be devoted to womenswear and shoes – (more heart pounding from Chutzpah). There will also be a unique library area which will showcase the best of British contemporary Art Books and bespoke commissions by artists including Anish Kapoor, Chris Ofili and Gary Hume. (Yet even more Chutzpah heart pounds. Are they trying to kill me?). And for the gloriously wealthy who can’t be seen to be consuming, the store’s second floor is a separate, luxurious world – the private client suite, which can only be accessed by invitation. Oh, if only!
