Tom Ford launches Lipstick collection

by Katie on April 23, 2010

I mean, all they really had to do was mention Tom Ford and lipstick and I was so there. I’m talking about the exciting and long awaited new launch of the smooth, sleek and uber stylish range of make-up, starting with lipsticks, from from the God of Fashion – Tom Ford. Would we expect anything else other than drop dead gorgeous from the new Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colour Collection?

Everything he touches turns to gold, the glint of which tinges the edges of the ivory, square cases containing (almost) liquid gold. In fact, his name is etched on top of the gold casing, just so, if you ‘accidentally’ leave it lying on your man’s bathroom shelves, he’ll know that you’re a) a woman of style and substance and b) what to buy you should he be looking to gift you with something special. At £35 each, these lipsticks are an investment so had better live up to the sexy promise. As Tom Ford says, “There is no more dramatic accessory than a perfect lip. It is the focus of the face and it has the power to define a woman’s look.” Quite right, too.

The lipstick casing is lighter than I imagined; I thought it would have a heavier metallic handle and this could have added even more glamour and, no pun intended, weight. In the same vein as the classic gold casing of YSL (another Chutzpah favourite lippy) but slightly shorter in length, the white/gold mix certainly makes a fashion statement. The TF initials are emblazoned on to the lipstick slant (which on my favoured ‘Cherry Lush’ is already faint from self indulgent, show-off, applications).

The colour selection is well thought out for a cash rich, confident woman with twelve shades in defiant bolds (reds, oranges, pinks), browns (in subtle beige and coffee shades) and plums (light berry through to deep wine). Every woman will uncover her signature look with this perfectly calibrated wardrobe of flattering colours. Rare and exotic ingredients including soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil create the creamy texture and glistening, rich sheen to the lipsticks. They are soft, moisturising and sensitive with good stain – definitely not harsh or drying. In terms of lasting power, as a frequent applier I guess I don’t give it long enough to fade but they do require blotting at first, like every lipstick. These are lipsticks for women who like to be noticed.

Mr Ford has been quoted in Esquire magazine, saying one of the best rules of style is ‘to know yourself and know what you like. That’ll be your signature.’. With ‘Cherry Lush’, I can paint the town hot damn, glam red while truly being a lush.

Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Colour Collection launches throughout the UK from Saturday, 24th April and is available from dept stores already selling Tom Ford Private Blend fragrances, including Harvey Nichols and Selfridges. The collection is also available online from Selfridges on line. (www.selfridges.com)
