Boy, does fashion mogul, Pierre Bergé, have a colourful past.

In 1992, Bergé sold his shares of the Yves Saint Laurent just before the company released a poor economic report. In 1996, this action was deemed to be insider trading and he was sentenced to a fine of one million Francs. I expect, not to be missed with his vast fortune. In between, Tom Ford had come into the group and helped the house to become one of the most profitable by the time of his departure in 2004.

Tom Ford has stated of his his time at YSL, that along with Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Bergé made his life a misery. ie. “…being at Yves Saint Laurent was such a negative experience for me even though the business boomed while I was there. Yves and his partner, Pierre Bergé, were so difficult and so evil and made my life such misery.” (The Advocate , Jan 2010).

In February 2009, Bergé arranged a three day auction of the Collection of Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé which brought in 373,935,500 Euros (around $483 million) over the three days. The proceeds of the sale went to benefit the Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent Foundation and a new foundation that is being established for scientific research and the fight against AIDS.

The now famous Belgium based auction house of Pierre Bergé & Associés is synonymous with fine art sales and auctions, which brings me to its latest sale.

On the 9th June 2010, the Brussles auction company will be selling designs from “Soft Construction without Boiled Beans”, items which were created for the Moschino window display for the 2009 edition of the Salone del Mobile exhibition.

The unique design items of “Soft Construction without Boiled Beans” are an aesthetic reference, without any political connotation, to the famous painting “Soft Construction with Boiled Beans” by Salvador Dalì (1936).

The items, a table, two chairs, a lamp, seem to wither thanks to the workmanship of the soft materials and are unique items.

Perhaps best not to leave your half drunk voddie tonic on the table without a coaster. That’s if you don’t think you’re half cut simply by looking at them.
