London Fashion Week – Charlie Le Mindu

by Katie on September 22, 2010

From the opening Cadillac headlamp headpiece, self-styled “Master of Haute Coiffure” and Gaga collaborator, Charlie le Mindu was operating on high-wattage and full beam.

The naked female form still holds the power to shock, even seen-it-all-before fashion professionals, and le Mindu took inspiration from his pop star client, sending his models out in barely-there leopard print and then nothing at all – creating column inches and causing the Daily Mail to clutch its pearls in po-faced horror.

Working with human hair and a combination of flamingo pink and black, le Mindu took us to downtown Hollywood, where girls will do anything for fame and excess is glorified.  One model sported a pink poodle wig replete with face, whilst another’s natural Betty Page wig was topped with a large reflective saucer.  Long dresses with American Football-esque shoulders were fashioned from the same hair as the shoulder length wigs worn by the models.  If Morticia had ever got extra-marital with Cousin It behind Gomez’s back, this would have been the disturbing and strangely beguiling result.

As le Mindu took his bow to wild applause from the attendant East End club kids and New York electro king Larry Tee, his message was clear – there is no such thing as TOO MUCH.

Ohh I just loved the whole lot! Pure genius. I think I might need that pink hair suit for an event soon, what do you think? x
