Maison Francis Kurkdjian launch two new fragrances at Space NK.

by Katie on September 9, 2010

Good news for niche fragrance fiends everywhere.  Space NK has just announced the arrival of the elusive and exclusive Francis Kurkdjian line of fragrances at a pop up boutique at it’s Broadwick Store in London, and soon to be rolled out across many more Space NK stores throughout the UK, including two brand new serious additions to the line: Absolue Pour Le Matin and Absolue Pour Le Soir.

Francis Kurkdjian (pictured) is one of the world’s leading perfumers and has created iconic fragrances like Le Male for Jean Paul Gaultier and Lady Vengeance (alongside Romano Ricci) for Juliette Has A Gun.  It was only late last year that Kurkdjian opened his own fragrance house in Paris to globally eager eyes.  Monsieur Kurkdjian manages to both combine the style, panache and charm of an old style perfume house with the stratospheric sensuality and new techniques of 2st century perfumery.  The line is so chic it aches with cool – stripped back white boxes, laid back subtle gold typeface and its squared off bottles which grasp at attention.

The Absolue fragrances are a whooped up 25% fragrance intensity whereas the colognes (which are subtle and for those in your closest environment) are at a 10% concentration.  This makes the Absolute versions stronger, heavier and suitable for wearing on their own or for layering over the top of the correspondent cologne.  Distinctive and different, wearing Kurdjian fragrances marks you out as a niche taste finder, an early adopter or a Goddam smarty pants, if you would.  But this is a GOOD thing, indeed.  Why run with the hounds when you can sit atop an elegant thoroughbred, cruising along above the masses?

Whereas the Absolue Pour Le Matin is bright and breezy like a sunny spring morning (Kurkdjian took his inspiration from a scene in the Francoise Sagan novel, Bonjour Tristesse), with fresh infusions of bergamot, Lemon, Lavender and thyme, it was the heavier, more seductive and sensuous Pour le Soir that immediately resonated with me.  I’m a sucker for heady Eastern promise or at least the promise of wild indulgent nights and even wilder men.  Pour Le Soir will guarantee both.

Pour Le Soir blows you away with its heavy indulgence and a hedonistic kick. This is rock and roll with a vintage ’30’s Eastern gangster moll.  Pour Le Soir transports you to opium dens by way of Indian enlightenment.  This fragrance is like walking across red hot coals in vintage Dior, smelling the insense, fire and sandalwood and happily ensconcing the fragrance and the experience in your hair and skin.

Sophistication oozes from Pour Le Soir.  Ylang Ylang, Cumin, Atlas Cedar and Sandalwood are added to the existing cologne structure of Benzoin, Bulgarian and Iranian Rose Honey and Incense absolue.  Now if that doesn’t get you interested and make you feel like going out on a dangerous edge, nothing will.  Pour Le Soir is for ‘look at me’ risk takers and the world is all the better for it.  Put me down for the trip.

The new Absolue eau de parfum natural spray bottles are priced at £115 and are available exclusively from selected Space NK stores nationwide and at
