Triumph Inspiration Award 2010 – Access All Areas

by Katie on September 16, 2010

This is a Chutzpah first.  Live blogging from the Global Triumph Inspiration Awards backstage.  What better kick off London Fashion Week than with a hyper glamorous show with the worlds best student designers, all vying for the winning prize of fifteen thousand Euros and a chance to have their design made to sell exclusively in Triumph stores.
Tonight’s panel will include famed photographer, Rankin, who took the totally gorgeous press pics of top supermodel, Helen Christensen, another judge.  Matthew Williamson and ex BFC Chairwoman, Hilary Riva, are also part of the panel.

Backstage was organised mayhem with beautiful models being preened and fitted, top make-up artists simultaneously doing nails and face and lots of very exited student designers.

My top picks for the show come from Bulgaria, a stunning series of black strings that drape and envelop the body, Japan which is a kitsch confection of birds in a nest ornateness, Singapore’s amazing Galliano like tulle dress fantasy with lingerie as the base and Australia’s futuristic white big girdle pants and bra.  I bet there’ll be a place for the Gaga’esque outfit from Canada – all hoop 18th Century underskirt, corset and top hat.

I spoke to Bulgaria’s student entry, Nicolay Bozhilov whose ‘Morphology’ ‘string’ piece I loved so much.  “I’ve taken the female body as my inspiration, the beauty, the structure of the muscles and have tried to create a ‘map’ of the body with my piece.”

Let’s see what wins!  Meanwhile, I’ll take in some of this evening’s pre show champagne and glitz before heading on to Selfridges for the Shoe Lounge launch.  Exciting times.  Roll on London Fashion Week.
