WGSN announce first Global Fashion Awards

Last Thursday at the rock star style Sanctum Hotel in London’s Soho, the world’s favourite trend forecasting agency renowned and revered in the fashion industry, WGSN, announced their inaugural Global Fashion Awards and the shortlist of names in the 17 categories.  Just so you know, WGSN is the leading online trend-analysis and research service providing creative and business intelligence for the apparel, style, design and retail industries and its reach is far and influential, so these awards will be closely followed by the global fashion industry and are bound to become a fashiontastic feature in the calendar.

The 17 categories include Outstanding Visual Merchandising (shortlisted names include Harvey Nichols, Nicole Farhi, Lane Crawford, Macy’s and Melissa), Most Influential Designer Womenswear (Alexander Wang, Nicolas Ghesquière – Balenciaga, Christopher Bailey – Burberry, Phoebe Philo – Céline, Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana -Dolce & Gabbana, Isabel Marant, Alber Elbaz – Lanvin, Phillip Lim – 3.1 Phillip Lim, Miuccia Prada – Prada and Vivienne Westwood), Outstanding Etailer (which includes ASOS, Gilt Groupe, My-wardrobe.com, Net-a-porter.com, THECORNER.com, Vente-privee.com, Zappos) and Most Influential Designer – Footwear and Accessories (Albertus Swanepoel, Frida Giannini – Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Miuccia Prada – Miu Miu, Emma Hill – Mulberry, Nicholas Kirkwood, Stefano Pilati – Yves Saint Laurent, and Jimmy Choo).

The global calibre and reputation of the names and brands selected will throw a spotlight on these awards in seasons to come.  Says Harold Tillman, Chairman of British Fashion Council, “Championing and nurturing talent is central to the British Fashion Council’s work, which is why we are delighted to be part of the WGSN Global Fashion Awards. We fully applaud and support any initiative that rewards innovation in fashion design and retail for businesses large and small and it is exciting to see this being done for the first time on a global basis.”


Winners of the inaugural Global Fashion Awards will be announced at a ceremony at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria in New York.on 10th November 2010.
