Chutzpah’s Weekly Barometer

by Katie on February 4, 2011

A light hearted look back over the past week’s good, bad and indifferent including the “don’t even go there’s”.

Anya Hindmarch bespoke men’s luggage  Ms H does it again.  Really rather beautiful (despite Dylan Jones’ involvement).  Miaow.

Trainerspotter for Harvey Nichols  @TeamChutzpah’s been wearing Trainerspotter for years.  Nice to see that HN have recognised the wit and nods to hip-hop and streetwear culture that are the crux of every Trainerspotter garment.

Lascivious S/S ’11 collection photographed by Rankin, worn by Tuuli.  A lingerie collection that’s exactly the right side of erotic, extremely good taste.  Memories of AP’s original collections which now look rather samey, allowing hot young labels like this to push the boundaries and clean up.

ASOS  Beating the high street at their own game with their own label collections and, through their ASOS Africa project, giving something back too.  Taste, speed and affordability with a conscience.  Giant tick of approval.

Couture  Surprisingly, for an industry buoyed up by 150 regular buyers, busier than ever and with some truly outstanding collections. Plus, a girl can dream.   *sigh*

Holy Ghost!  Hip NY Disco/Not Disco act on James Murphy’s DFA Records finally announce their long-awaited album.

Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Extreme Mascara for the lash extremist. Lashes appear magnified and multiplied with one swipe, making eyes look outrageously big and amazingly bold.  Not only does it do what it says on the package, it’s super elegant with the famous Estee black swirl logo on gold.  (£22)

David Guetta  The go-to producer for American hip-hop acts is running out of ideas.  His landfill electrohouse has been clogging up the charts and the back seats of the nation’s buses for way too long.  Just because it’s popular doesn’t mean that it’s any good.  (Fast becoming ChutzPRs motto).

Acne and Alexander Wang  Will somebody please sit us down and justify the price tag and hysteria for, what are essentially, some extremely run-of-the-mill garms? Just because it’s popular… etc (Acne S/S ’11 pictured left).

Valentine themed PR mailshots  Aaaaghhhh!  Everything from cupcakes to botox.  So looking forward to Easter.  *rolls eyes*

February’s arctic wind and rain Battering our complexions and making them patchy, to say the least.  Thank God for Givenchy’s Hydra Sparkling Recharging Luminescence Moisturizing Mask (£30).  Can’t wait to try it as it promises that it’s an indispensable refresher for ‘thirsty, dull, tired skin’ (charming).  Now all I have to do is concentrate on finding the perfect foundation that defies the inclement weather.

Multi media service providers for land line, iPhone, Blackberry, satellite TV, iPad. Where will it end?  Price of communication is a joke.  *writes off whole salary*

For Eastender’s baby story line  They’ll keep this one going until the kid’s 18.  Bored of this now.
