Chutzpah’s Weekly Barometer

by Katie on April 1, 2011

A light hearted look back over the past week’s good, bad and indifferent including the “don’t even go there’s”.
LOVING

ESTEE LAUDER’S BRONZE GODDESS COLLECTION FOR 2011 – You know Summer’s on the way when Estee Lauder release this delicious collection of High Summer must-haves.  Just loving the limited edition shimmering bronze nail polish and the light and breezy Bronze Goddess Soleil fragrance with Sicilian citron, neroli and orange blossom.  Star product is the beautiful Island Oasis Eyeshadow palette of six irresistibly wearable shades with delicate iridescent pigments in warm sand shades of copper, bronze, gold and coral balanced by cool surf hues of turquoise, seashell pink, silver and seaweed.  Limited Edition Bronze Goddess Island Oasis EyeShadow Palette, RRP £31.00.  Available at Estée Lauder counters nationwide and online at http://www.esteelauder.co.uk/ from 2nd May 2011 (previewing at House of Fraser from 28th March 2011).

MARKS AND SPENCER SUIT FIT FORTNIGHT  We see so many sartorial tragedies every morning so this is a welcome initiative from good ‘ole M and S.  Now, if only someone could teach (straight) men how to buy a pair of jeans that fits.

KATE BUSH – Scream!  New ‘Director’s Cut’ album scheduled for 15th May.  (Comment from @Teamchutzpah – Katie’s taken to interpretive dancing in a Jena Theo turban since hearing the news).

MADE IN THE UK – Sarah Mower reports that London-based high-end designers such as Erdem, Chris Kane and, ahem, Victoria Beckham, are backing Britain and using UK manufacturers.  Read the full article here

‘SOURCE CODE’ – Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan star in another thought-provoking sci-fi thriller from little Zowie Bowie aka Duncan Jones.

PAIGE JEANS VS. TERRY DE HAVILLAND – Sassy yet demure heels from the premium denim line that I’ve long been a fan of and rock ‘n’ roll footwear legend De Havilland.  The line will comprise of only four styles and is available to buy online exclusively at http://www.donnaida.com/
BRAD GORESKI – Rachel Zoe’s former A-gay and guilty Team Chutzpah crush (check out the Terry Richardson pics) gets his own show.  MAY-JOR.

HATING
SLY STALLONE’S MENSWEAR LINE – NO.
MOTHS  Uugh!  I’m going all Uma Thurman Kill Bill on their little asses.  The return of the vintage and soul destroying little blighters means I’m going for both full on blitz, chemical approach as well as supplementing with Total Wardrobe Care’s more sweet smelling linen spray (£21) which can be sprayed directly onto clothing.
FESTIVAL “STYLE” – Yes, the countdown to festival season has started already.  We’re remaining indoors until Tomas Maier designs a collection which co-ordinates with mud and vomit.
APRIL SHOWERS – Drip, drop, drip, drop…fight the frizz and help keep hair smooth with Lee Stafford’s new Arganoil™ from Morocco Nourishing Miracle Oil (50ml) which helps to enrich hair’s natural shine while tackling frizz.  Available from Boots stores priced £11.99.

SCANDALS – Robert Duffy, the man who cleaned up Marc Jacobs and made him a global fashion brand is now the target of a particularly grubby lawsuit.

‘THE MODEL AGENCY’ (Channel 4) – Yet another reinforcement of the ‘fashion-people-are-idiots-or-monsters’ archetype. We can’t win.  And, not helped by the fact that the recently launched Premier ‘Model kit’ by Monu is a hefty £45 for what is basically travel size cleansing products and a pack of cleansing wipes.  Nice idea but £45!  Talk about cashing in.

MAGAZINE MOTHERING SUNDAY GIFT SUGGESTIONS – Our mummies are yummy but they would batter us if we bought them eg monogrammed Smythson notelets.

DON’T CARE

THAT ‘FRIDAY’ RECORD – A lot of people old enough to know better are getting their Myla and Damaris in a twist over this one.  It’s just music.  Turn it off and walk away.

HRH Prince William’s hairline – Call us when he’s got hair plugs or bought a toupee. Or, perhaps he should opt for an all over no.1?  He is in the armed forces so could carry it ‘orf.
