New York – The Swarovski Collective A/W’ 12 – Jason Wu, Juan Carlos Obando & Creatures of The Wind

New York Fashion week has already begun and already The Swarovski Collective set of emerging and established designers are showing some understated new age bling with the use of Swarovski crystals in their A/W’12 collections.

Jason Wu’s collection (pictured above) brought together a mix of stately shapes and couture details on strong warrior type women. The Swarovski Elements were used to help define the strong shapes through embellishments and lustre.

Chicago based designers, Shane Gabier and Chris Peters, who go under the name of ‘Creatures of the Wind‘ sent out an eclectic sometimes erratic collection of clashing fabrics and proportions, all based on Episcopalian Scottish Minister, Robert Kirk’s book, ‘The Secret Commonweath of Elves, Fauns and Fairies.’ Saying that, the collection seemed grounded in reality rather than a flight of fancy and aimed firmly at a street-wise, dollar rich Bohemian clientele.
Juan Carlos Obando showed his now trademark glamorous red carpet resort pieces as well as some more experimental designs inspired by Californian motorbikers. Obando’s mix of heady sophistication and flowing svelte lines create a look that’s a hit with the more refined with edgy leanings, who like to mix it up a little. Bright fuchsias, turquoise and salmon met the simplicity of linear black stretch brocade print pieces bearing Swarovski crystallised beadwork in shot inky blue, black, mint and turquoise. This was a confident collection fully aware of his now global stage.

Said Obado of his link with Swarovski, It gives us the opportunity to have the resources to create collections with the finest pieces and elements.”
