This May, fashion brand Acne have teamed with Lord Snowdon to publish a unique collection of portraits, Snowdon Blue, initiated by Lord Snowdon’s daughter Frances von Hofmannsthal.
The book features 61 images (including David Bowie, Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Fiennes and the Prince of Wales) by one of the most important portrait photographers of our time and documents personalities from within the arts, British Royalty and politics as well as chronicling Snowdon’s fondness for the colour blue, particularly his creative use of blue shirts in portraiture. Says Snowdon, “The blue shirt is anonymous and yet kind of a uniform. It’s like a simple backdrop that leaves us to focus on the sitter’s face without being distracted.”
To accompany the book, Acne Studios will be hosting a touring Snowdon portrait exhibition in London, Paris and Stockholm as well as a sale of limited edition prints from the book, available from 3rd May. Pinned to the temporary walls in Acne Studios, the display is inspired by the way Lord Snowdon himself pins pictures on the wall of his studio.
Last Thursday night, the launch party at the Acne store in Dover Street was filled with celebrities including Lord Snowdon and his daughter, Frances Von Hofmannsthal, Viscount Linley, Lady Sarah Chatto, Lady Helen Taylor, Nicky Haslam, Mary Chateris, Mike Skinner, Jade Parfitt, Lulu Kennedy, David Collins, Matt Collishaw, Polly Morgan, Misty Rabbit, Darren Cunningham and Henry Holland amongst others.
The hand picked invited crowd of artists, designers, editors, musicians and actors gathered to celebrate the launch of the book. Guests were served champagne throughout the evening with entertainment provided by East London’s Bistrotheque cabaret pianist Xavier.
The Snowdon Blue book is priced £80 available for sale in Acne Studios and through Snowdon-Review.com. A limited edition of 8 unisex blue shirts will also be available at selected Acne Studios stores globally.
