Jo Malone’s Amber & Patchouli & New Covent Garden Flagship Boutique

by Katie on June 4, 2012

So enamoured was I of the gorgeous, deeply sexy, Velvet Rose & Oud Limited Edition addition to the Jo Malone Cologne Intense range that I immediately had to go back and try the Amber & Patchouli version as they’re two of my favourite ingredients.

Amber & Patchouli is a great beast of fragrance. Deep, dark and mysterious like most of this superior range, the first whiff is a hedonistic treat with its blast of unmistakeable patchouli with the layered softness of amber that combines to create a woodiness and rawness that’s feral like in its attractiveness.

At once both masculine and feminine, Amber & Patchouli surprised me in its aggressiveness – there’s no doubt who wears the trousers. This if full on, stake your claim Alpha’ism albeit in a feminine guise. Of course, it will have it fans in the Middle East, but this is a fearless surprise for those adventurous and confident enough to wear it. The first punch of fragrance wakes you up but the dry down is as soft as suede and doubly rich as an oil baron. In fact, it may be just right for exactly the latter.

Says Master Perfumer Christine Nagel who worked with the Jo Malone Creative Studio to develop these fragrances, influenced by the Middle East. “Yes, it’s a bold approach, but I wanted to take such risks to create fragrances with impact, heart and soul. I chose to take potentially opposing ingredients of very high quality to create unexpected yet harmonious fragrances…because when fragrance elicits an emotion, the story begins…”
These can be found with the entire Jo Malone range at the brand new flagship boutique in Covent Garden. The elegant style of the store comes through in its tones of black, white and cream and is the first store to have the ‘townhouse’ design which will soon be rolled out to other Jo Malone boutiques.

Amber & Patchouli is available from Jo Malone priced at £90 for 100ml. All ranges available at the new flagship store (and online), Jo Malone, 10-11 King Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2E 8HN
