A Legend Returns – Hong Kong boutique JOYCE collaborates with Romeo Gigli

Romeo Gigli. I can hardly write the name without drifting off, recalling his sublime romantic creations that merged texture with voluminous wrapping, soft folds and muted tones – everything Gigli touched was a romantic masterpiece. 
Gigli combined the mood and drape of Erte with the use of modern stretch fabrics as well as textured velvets, silk, wool and cotton and remains one of the most influential designers of the 1980s and ’90s. Often working with his friend, photographer Paolo Roversi, this creative partnership launched the most memorable photographic imagery of the time. (Archive imagery above).

And dear readers, he’s back. Influential Hong Kong boutique, JOYCE, has announced the launch of an global exclusive A/W collection for the store, ‘JOYCE by Romeo Gigli’ which stays true to Gigli’s original ethos.
JOYCE President Andrew Keith said of the collaboration: “We are honoured to be able to work with Romeo on this special project. Romeo has always been a visionary and inspiring force in fashion and we are looking forward sharing his talent with a whole new generation of Gigli fans both in China and around the world.”

Italian-born Gigli remains one of the industry’s most influential designers thanks to his distinctive style featuring soft and romantic silhouettes that reference everything from Renaissance Art to punk street  style.  

Although he took a break from the industry in 2004, his influence has never faded with countless of designers paying homage to his work. His new collection, “JOYCE by Romeo Gigli” embodies his signature style, while appealing to a new generation of men and women looking for timeless fashion that is modern and relevant.  

“To me this is a happy homecoming. I have often worked with JOYCE over the years, and they have contributed in making the fashion lexicon universal. This is a goal we both share,” said Gigli about the partnership. 
The “JOYCE by Romeo Gigli” collection will launch for the autumn/winter season and is set to be one of the most exciting fashion projects of the year. The collection will debut globally online on JOYCE.com for pre-order from 13th – 23rd July before launching in JOYCE. High profile celebrations will follow in Hong Kong and Beijing, where archive pieces from Italy will be showcased alongside the “JOYCE by Romeo Gigli” collection. 
Gigli will also make several public appearances to meet with VIPs and media, as well as fashion students at various universities in Hong Kong and Beijing. Celebrations will culminate with a landmark event in Venice, Italy where JOYCE will unveil a new luxury pop-up store on 28th August during the Venice Film Festival 2012. 
To coincide with the launch, JOYCE will launch an exclusive advertising campaign featuring stunning images shot by Chinese renowned photographer, Chen Man (pictured above). The campaign will feature an international cast of models hailing from different backgrounds.
These four faces embody the Gigli style for the new generation and include: Matthew Avedon, grandson of legendary photographer Richard Avedon and past Gigli collaborator; London  “it” boy and style icon Charlie Casely Hayford;  Paris-based Mexican blogger Denni Elias; and Beijing  supermodel Ju Li Li, who is set to become the new face of China.
