Marni Resort Collection 2012/2013

by Katie on July 17, 2012

There’s so much coming at a fash blogger via email that sometimes you miss quirky lines like this quite stupendous Marni collection that manages to be both simultaneously kooky and sophisticated. Boys will hate it. Girls will love it. That’s Marni for you. It’s spirited and personal.
The silhouette is neat and crisp: it flares firmly from a nipped waist to end below the knee, or flows fluently. Rounded skirts are teamed with straight blousons and overcoats closed with snap buttons, flat golden studs outlining the collar. Loose trousers worn with mannish shirts have an air of slouchy sophistication. Raffia in used to create three dimensional embroideries; shirt & skirt ensembles swarm in matching or mixed prints.
The colour palette is individual: tones of midnight blue, tobacco, rust, ochre are interspersed with nuances of dusty pink, light blue, pale grey, watery yellow. Prints merge geometries, organic forms and blooming flowers while fabrics have a compact hand: cotton poplin, faille, silk twill, technical taffetas. The devil is in the detail.
Marni accessories continue to be distinctive and exaggerated and include low or high-heel sandals with oversized slip-on fronts, patent pump loafers with matte details and a stack heel, silver sandals. Bags are neat and geometric: precise shoulder bags with a short strap, rectangular styles with a small handle and studded details and flat clutches to hold iPads and other necessities.

Marni tends to get a girl noticed.
