Jimmy Choo launches a range with New York artist, Rob Pruitt

There’s a saying, ‘Never judge a woman until you can walk a mile in her shoes’. If those should happen to be Jimmy Choos, then you’ve hit the jackpot. These are mean sexy babies, all the more for the latest Jimmy Choo collaboration with hip New York artist Rob Pruitt that launches today.

Pruitt has wielded his particular brand of iconoclastic humour and visual exuberance since he emerged on the New York art scene in the late ‘80s. From glittering panda bear paintings to large scale dégradé canvases with a scribble of human expression, to a silvered Andy Warhol monument on public view, Pruitt is known for producing art that is both playful and profound and collected the world over.

Incorporating Pruitt’s distinctive art influences, this latest Choo collection has a whimsical feel, incorporating some of Pruitt’s recurring artistic themes. Each product is finished with an attention to detail including arty playful linings, exclusive materials and hand-finished soles.

Says Choo’s creative directors, Sandra Choi & Simon Holloway, “The collaboration has yielded collectable pieces that are highly original, integrating both Rob’s sarcastic wit and Jimmy Choo’s iconic glamour.”

Featuring 19 styles of shoes, bags and accessories, the Jimmy Choo/Rob Pruitt collection comprises shoes, bags and small leather goods which feature dégradé leather linings patterned with repeating angel and devil pandas. Soles of shoes are finished with a wash of colours creating an eye catching flash with each step. Wallets, luggage tags and key chains feature panda charms and patent dégradé with leopard print. Shoes include playful options of jelly sandals and glitter zebra ballet pumps to the more glamorous boudoir mule with marabou pom pom, and glitter zebra sandals. Glitter, a recurring material for Pruitt and for Jimmy Choo, plays the role of skilled seduction.

Iconic Jimmy Choo styles including the ‘Anouk’ pump are re-imagined featuring Pruitt’s signature use of dégradé colour in vibrant orange, pink, and yellow hues of mirrored leather overlaid with French lace.

The highly collectible collection includes a limited edition pair of angel and devil panda minaudières, the ultimate expression of the artistic collaboration, each featuring more than 11,000 hand-applied crystals. Each set, one of a limited edition of 12, will be numbered and signed by the artist.

Jimmy Choo has also created special packaging to accompany the collection. The bright pink boxes with dégradé lining, sealed with an angel or devil panda sticker, mirror the collection design theme. With the release of this collection, Jimmy Choo has taken a step towards wearable pop art. The range is available from all Jimmy Choo stores and Net-a-Porter
