On the day that London celebrated the life of the legendary Vidal Sassoon at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday, 12th October, an exhibition of Out Takes of artwork by graphic designer and art director Steve Hiett launched at Somerset House.
Hiett’s exhibition artwork is featured in the new book (published by Rizzoli), ‘Vidal Sassoon: How One Man Changed the World with a Pair of Scissors’. Featuring photography, artwork and film, it offers a colourful insight into the fascinating life and work of a man who went from orphan to freedom fighter to leader of the hairdressing revolution in the ’60s.
The book also includes images of Mia Farrow, Grace Coddington, Mary Quant and Nancy Qwan juxtaposed with striking visuals which capture Vidal’s’ life through WWII, fighting Mosley a part of the ’43 Group’, his love of architecture, family and culture.
Hiett has added his own unique style of graphics to create a vibrant and colourful exhibition that celebrates the life of this British hairdressing legend.
The Out Takes Vidal Sassoon exhibition takes place in the Courtyard Rooms, South Wing, Somerset House until 28th October 2012. 10am to 6pm Daily
