Christmas Comes to Topman

by Katie on November 5, 2012

All those of a sensitive nature can look away now. CHRISTMAS. Yes. I went there.  As a diagnosed retail dependent even I have mild palpitations each year at the thought of Christmas shopping. Each year I would have to get completely shedded on Chenin Blanc to even contemplate rubbing shoulders with sweaty husbands, the standard teenage girls in “sexy” Santa costumes, and teams of straight lads who think strength in numbers is an effective substitute for inspired present buying.
Thanks to my exercise regime I can no longer self-medicate my way through the festive season. What a friend then we have in Topman, who have produced a nifty A-Z guide to Christmas. Not only do they have some sneaky gift suggestions for that boy who has everything, there’s also some handy hints for dressing up on the big day. Paisley flocked chinos anyone?
One area you don’t immediately associate Topman with is men’s grooming, but that’s about to change with the recent release of Distil, Topman’s first entry into the fine fragrance market. A surprisingly mature blend of blood orange, juniper, musks and woods, Distil was designed to encapsulate “the energy, coolness and passion within a man”.
As the Winter nights draw in the Fashion Pack are working themselves up into a fervour over this week’s launch of designer James Long’s collaboration with Topman. Long goes from strength to strength, having shown one of the standout collections at the menswear shows back in June, and his capsule collection of toasty textured knits for Topman doesn’t disappoint. I’ve got my eye on that slouchy panelled cardigan to snuggle up in this Christmas, Charbonnel et Walker drinking chocolate on the hob and an old ‘Bond’ on the box.
