Lyn Harris launches Six Unique Scents with M&S

by Katie on December 7, 2012

So, this was a mighty little surprise that packed a floral punch. Lyn Harris (of Miller Harris fame) has been associated with creating some memorable fragrances including a couple of my favourites, Rose en Noir (for Liberty) and the late (now depleted) original Matthew Williamson fragrance, Incense, one of the sorriest discontinuations in years.

Ms Harris has taken a step closer to wider availability and a more accessible entry price point by teaming up with high street giants, Marks & Spencer, the bastion of middle class good taste. Lyn has created six unique fragrances for the brand, three for women (La Rose, La Fleur and La Poudree) and three for men (Le Noir, Le Sauvage, Le Cologne). The names may give more than a hint at the overriding base. Nonetheless, these are pretty sophisticated little fragrances that give good scent and with substantial staying power. So far, so impressed.
I’ve only tried La Fleur of the six but it’s made me want to venture by the Marble Arch store for a play with ‘les autres’. It’s intense and deep on application, giving a feeling of weight and real perfume stickiness that is often missing in mass market releases. The overdose of white flowers hits down instantaneously. This is BIG with a vintage feel and not for those who skirt around soft fragrances.
Overindulgingly feminine with white gardenia and Indian tuberose as well as a hint of vanilla and musk, La Fleur is a delight. With warmth as well as a rounded approach, this doesn’t leave you gasping for breath, but wanting more. To wear it akin to wrapping yourself in silk printed florals, lifting the mood. La Fleur is clever in that it will appeal to a younger woman just as much as an M&S older habituee. For that fact alone, 10/10 to both Ms Harris and the eponymous British brand.

On teaming up with M&S, says Lyn, “I was completely delighted that M&S wanted me to develop a fragrance for them and they have been so amazing to work with.”

Lyn Harris fragrances are available at and selected stores priced £25 for a 50ml EDP.
