Now here was a seasonal glow right in the middle of Mayfair on a Wednesday evening. Barely two weeks from Christmas and shoe designer of the moment, Nicholas Kirkwood, hosted a Christmas drinks party to celebrate his partnering with Chambord black raspberry liqueur and the launch of ‘The Chambord’, a limited edition deep raspberry velvet shoe with architectured gilt heels.
Any West End girl worth her glamour will testify that Mr Kirkwood’s heels just ‘do something’ to a woman, adding a certain stand-out as well as a sexy gait and swagger befitting of a film star. Which was only too fitting as many starlets and Mayfair girls chatted and circulated in the store that was liberally flowing with Chambord Velvet Kiss cocktails, Hot Chambord Cider and the Chambord Royale.
As well as the copious ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhing’ over the glorious shoes, there was even the archetypal chestnuts roasting on an open brazier to add authenticity if you dared brave the freezing temperature and ventured outside.
With (budding) starlets in Kirkwood heels, Chambord smoothing things along and lots of Yuletide good cheer with the Bistroteque choir in Santa hats, singing carols as well as the odd Lady Gaga number, this was a fun way to kick start Christmas. In heels.
Attendees included Gwendoline Christie, Jaime Winstone, Florence Brudenell-Bruce, Margot Bowman, Jo Wood, Sophie Sumner, Ophelia Lovibond, Ruth Wilson and Martha Ward.
The Chambord shoe will be exclusively available in Nicholas Kirkwood’s flagship store on Mount Street from December.
