As one of the most covetable and prestigious lipsticks to own, Tom Ford’s range has got to be up there. Most women know the value of a good lipstick is not only in the moisturising and/or conditioning treatment, depth of colour and staying power but in the prestige of pulling such a seductive designer gem from your pocket or handbag for touch-ups. Men find this act sensual but other women are more likely to be checking out both the brand and shade.
This week sees the man with the midas touch, Tom Ford, launch a range of ten new lip shades that create a semi-transparent, high-shine slick of colour. The feel of the new lip colour is both smooth and tacky but doesn’t transfer easily to champagne glasses* (*It’s a tough job but someone has to research). The colour can be built – one swoop for a shine colour for day and a double application for evenings or, just because you can. The application is viscous like to relay that particular Tom Ford New York ’70s luminous feel and looks very much like a sheer lipstick has been applied and then a gloss overlaid (but not so hi-shine as to appear remotely vulgar).
Says Mr Ford of his new release, “Lips are a woman’s most alluring and sensual feature. Luminous, semitransparent lip colour is seductive in a very kissable way.”
The Lip Color Shine collection features a range of shades. There are three subtle neutral shades: Nubile, a rose nude, Abandon, a light tan, and Bare, a beige hue. There are five romantic, pink shades: Chastity, a blush pink; Smitten, a honeysuckle pink; Quiver, a light blue pink; Frolic, a pink peach, and Insidious, an apricot. Completing the collection are two touches of vivid colour: Willful, an orange red shade (my choice), and Ravenous, a hot cerise pink.
Developed to give lustrous colour, luxuriant sheen and ultimate conditioning, Lip Color Shine feels as good as it looks with the trademark blend of soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil.
Tom Ford Lip Color Shine is priced £36 and has just launched at Tom Ford Beauty Color counters nationwide from February 2013. (Selfridges London & Manchester, Harvey Nichols London & Edinburgh, Harrods and Frasers, Glasgow.
