Jo Malone has certainly upped its ante in the last couple of years. With new looks by in-house creative director, James Gager, working regularly with perfumers like Christine Nagel as well as launching innovative and quirky, typically English new releases like wild bluebell, blackberry & bay, earl grey & cucumber and the sugar and spice collection for Spring ’13.
To keep things rolling along on the creative as well as super stylish front, Jo Malone have linked with one of London’s top stylists, Charlotte Stockdale. As London Style editor for Jo Malone, Charlotte has taken one of the brand’s archetypal popular fragrances, Red Roses, and made it design fit for 2013 for the launch of Charlotte’s Corner.
Charlotte’s Corner debuts at Selfridges and is a one-off installation featuring must-have Jo Malone London pieces mixed with vintage finds and illustrated textiles. Says Stockdale, “I wanted to add a modern twist to the iconic packaging of Jo Malone London. I love neon, especially on a neutral background, so the classic cream and black set against shocking pink is a brilliant combination. It’s fashion graffiti. Playful, cool and alive.”
This limited edition bottle (only 300 produced, all individually numbered, there’s already a waiting list) has had a hand-splashed, London Pop Art re-image that has re-modernised this classic blend of perfume that contains seven roses with crushed violet leaves and a hint of lemon. The contrast of classic red roses fragrance in a hip, hot neon dripped bottle works well and replicates Jo Malone’s contemporary English traditionalism with Charlotte’s out-there fashion forward thinking.
Additionally, Charlotte has collaborated with Abigail*ryan, the Belfast-based homeware company, specialising in illustrated textiles. Produced from the collaboration are bold scatter cushions, sachets and cologne pouches with detailed hand stitching in neon pink.
Charlotte’s Corner opens in Selfridges on April 1st, 2013. Only available inn Selfridges London, Selfridges Manchester Exchange and online. Neon dipped Red Roses (100ml) is priced £120. Scatter cushions are £90, cologne pouches £20 and scented sachets £22.
