Watch out for Wes Gordon. He’s going to be VERY big indeed

by Katie on March 6, 2013

He’s young, he’s a Central St Martin’s graduate and ex-intern at both Oscar de la Renta and Tom Ford, he’s based in New York and he’s currently making the clothes I most want to wear. Meet Wes Gordon, the man who is surely going to be one of the biggest designers around.
He released his first collection in only 2009 and already Wes Gordon is high on the buyers list at Bergdorfs, Saks Fifth Avenue and Harrods. His designs breathe colour, life, elegance, good taste and cut for a rock-star attitude and sexy lifestyle. Once worn never forgotten.

Gordon’s clashing of colour as well as the long lean trouser cuts, rich opulence and juxtapositioning of fabric makes him not only an interesting designer to watch but a master at mixing Red Carpet with Rock Chic.

Crocodile-embossed bright pink silk satin, red or purple velvet boots, gold foil trousers, masterful trumpet sleeves, over long canary yellow printed loons, turquoise Chinese print trousers and tops worn with long pale pink gloves and pink fur stoles, fuchsia and purple kimono jackets slung artfully over the shoulders of a black all-in-one, these were clothes to make the heart race faster. The styling as important as the individual pieces in themselves.

Gordon’ A/W13 collection had a touch of the louche London Sgt Pepper girl about it but only once she’d crossed the pond and notched up high glamour and polish.
Gordon’s brand of riche is an acquired taste and not for everyone. A good thing indeed as it singles out those brave enough, glamorous and tasteful to get behind this young designer. Top of my list on the ‘want’ stakes.
