Hockley launch Pre-Fall ’13 Splash collection amidst London April snow.
Normally, receiving an email saying ‘Let it Snow’ from Hockley in the midst of Spring may cause me to ponder and think, mistimed. And I say that as a fur fan.
However, *sigh* it is early April and Twitter and Facebook is awash with incredulity at today’s weather in London – snow. If you’re reading this from a hot climate, you may well laugh and we are certainly very jealous. Personally, I’ve spent the last six bitterly cold months alternating between a vintage Saga fox fur jacket and a high tog duvet. But there we are. We tend to just sigh and gripe a lot. This is England, after all.
Hockley’s Splash pre fall ’13 collection as well as being deeply covetable merges the fun and the frivolous. An eye-popping colour palette and on trend sophisticated street styling means these pieces appeal to those who do fur.
Looking to Yayoi Kusama’s vivid fantasy and colour and treasuring Zandra Rhodes pieces that exist in the Hockley archive as well as recalling childhood games and drawings, creative director Izzet Ers presents his style statement with considerable charm.
This is a riot of in-your-face colour that creates elegant styles in gilets, cape backed jackets and coats that inventively hug the shoulders. Neon coloured jersey peeks out from layers of richly dyed fox in acid green and crystal blue. Shaggy Tibetan lamb in electric pink and shocking orange are twisted in stripes on cute cropped jackets and longer coats. Leopard and flower printed kidskin is layered with fox fur collars that hide delicate moulded flowers with Swarovski crystal centres.
Hockley’s iconic accessories also get the Splash colour treatment. Knitted Rex rabbit beanies and mittens, beaver snoods and trapper hats in big bold out-there colours are showstoppers.
