There’s a few contradictions going on here. Firstly, the masculine tinged bottle with the square, dark wood stopper is heavy and solid. Yet the contents and the distinctive gold on red graphic design (of the word ‘rose’ in Arabic) by Tarek Atrissi set against the amber contents conjures up the heavily kohled, enticing eyes of womanhood.
Aramis launches Calligraphy Rose
It seems that the Middle Eastern market and the yearly Ramadan Rush in London is extremely lucrative.
That bastion label of male scent, Aramis, is releasing a surprisingly complex and brooding hotbed of sensuality, Calligraphy Rose, that woos from first sight.
Like Benjamin Cumberbatch in a bottle, Calligraphy Rose is unerringly attractive if a little bit different and hard to fathom with its swoop of grand rose absolue but sweet and heady layered depths. Cumberbatch as a new Lawrence of Arabia – maybe?
The perfume opens in a big golden blast of sweet, wet honeysuckle petals with golden accents of saffron and the modern tinge of oregano leaves. What follows is a huge addition to the fragrance market. A big bold Turkish rose absolue full of Eastern promise with layers of myrrh and styrax set against a soft veil of classic French lavender.
Seducer or seductress, Calligraphy Rose teases with its bold arrival. Authentic in bringing a touch of exoticism to the wearer, its sensual breathe lays against the skin enticing everyone it encounters.
Contrarily both Middle Eastern traditional yet outstandingly modern in its approach, Calligraphy Rose manages to straddle masculine and feminine, Occident and Orient. Its background creates an aura of mystery and irresistible seduction: a soft whisper of labdanum and musk is combined with the tantalising power of ambergris and olibanum to create a delightful trail of undeniable magnetism.
“I created this fragrance for those who seek to combine rich tradition with modern sophistication,” says Trudi Loren, Corporate Vice President, Corporate Fragrance Development Worldwide, The EstéeLauder Companies.
Perfume Calligraphy Rose by Aramis is priced £115 for 100ml and is available exclusively at Harrods and Harrods.com from June 2013
