Jo Malone’s Peony & Blush Suede – Preview

by Katie on May 28, 2013

When Jo Malone releases a new fragrance to market, they are unrivalled in creating a sense of that fragrance for beauty & fragrance journalists to experience, translating the scent into a 3D reality that involves entering the Jo Malone world of the senses.
The brand stops nothing short of asking the visitors to play a part – it’s interactive in that the attendees move from stunning visual scenario to scenario, and like the best tableaux vivants,  this also involves themed food and drink as well as the feast for the eyes, ears and nose.
Jo Malone’s latest release (for September 2013) saw visitors witness Jo Malone’s headquarters transformed into a peony clad heaven. Floral artist, Rebecca Louise Law, created a floor to ceiling, two storey, four room explosion of peonies sculpted into the surroundings and filling the room with the scent that replicated that of the new Jo Malone release, Peony & Blush Suede. All the while, candles burned releasing the scent to greet those of the flowers.
Cleverly combining the base, heart and top notes in the floral displays, the floral art had rich red apples for the initial bite of crunchy apple that greets you on application of the scent as well as the soft caress of the peony petals, like pink suede being brushes along a wrist. Textural and sensitive, the works combined forces with dress displays from the new Tim Walker ad campaign to promote Peony & Blush Suede.

Specially designed debutante’esque gowns in soft hues of pink, layered against one another like the different shades and weights of peony and the varieties of jasmine, rose and gillyflower that all go to make up the fragrance.
The scent itself is gloriously pretty. With no hint of pretence, this beauty prances is soft-shoe harmony with her surroundings. There’s a grace to the fragrance. Of poise and elegance which bewitches from first wear. A fragrance that combines the crunchy wetness of bitten red apple with the blush touch of pink petalled suede. Elements of jasmine creep through and a green touch of gillyflower stem. Peony & Blush Suede, like a well-versed deb never dwarves with her character.
Laden with good manners and intentions, perfumer Christine Nagel’s Peony & Blush Suede is as charming as long pink gloves paired with layered organza and chiffon. One can almost sense the powdered skin, the bitten lip and the nervous anticipation of being ‘presented’.
It’s only May so you have to wait a while to experience this sophisticated-beyond-her-years newbie. Never Mind. Peony & Blush Suede is worth the wait.

The Peony & Blush Suede collection is available from Jo Malone stores and online from September 2013. The range comprises Cologne (30ml) at £39 and (100ml) £78 as well as Body Creme (175ml) at £50, Body & Hand Wash (250ml) at £32 and a Home Candle (200g) at £38.
