Kate Spade celebrates Chelsea Flower Show with a Tea Party
Earlier this week, Deborah Lloyd, president and chief creative officer (and true Brit) of Kate Spade New York, hosted her annual tea party at the brand’s Chelsea flagship store to celebrate the Chelsea Flower Show.
Now in it’s 100th year, the annual pilgrimage to Chelsea is made by more than the die-hard home counties set. Haven’t you heard? Gardening’s the new baking. Bulbs are the new cupcakes.
What’s not to love about the streets of Kensington & Chelsea being turned into a veritable ode to the treasured British festival with brands decking out their windows and store fronts in flowers and foliage. Chelsea Blooms.
Kate Spade’s optimism, it’s chi-chi uptown New York meets chic Chelsea vibe and its vivacious colour palette makes it the perfect setting to celebrate the wondrous flora and fauna, even if it has been more than a little seasonally chilly.
Wearing mostly bright ensembles to capture the mood, celebrities and selected invitees joined the Kate Spade president for tea, champagne, cake and the inevitable cucumber sandwiches. The weather didn’t disappoint (for once) and while it may have been a bracing wind, at least the sun was doing it’s very best to be cast in this typically English afternoon scene of ladies clinking china teacups and tall glass flutes while nibbling on macarons, cakes and just-so dainty sandwiches.
Guests attending included Caroline Flack, Donna Air, Olivia Grant, Angela Scanlon, Camilla Rutherford, Amber Atherton and Sophie Sumner.
