Chanel’s colour palette for Summer has blown me away with its beauty. L’Ete Papillon de Chanel floated in on a haze of butterflies’ wings and immediately caused ripples of anticipation which took the breathe away.
It may sound trite but opening boxes of squeaky fresh Chanel products brings a rush for any woman. Pair that with the shock of the new when contents spill such wondrous colours that apply tropical with topical.
Vibrant electric blues in iridescent azure and shimmery royal, vivid canary yellow, flat shocking pinks, deep jade greens and a good measure of the mattest, oiliest, sheeny black all served to remind us just how much when Chanel gets it right, they really usurp all others. Peter Phillips, Chanel’s Creative Director has created a dynamic poetic beauty in this outstanding collection.
Then there is the photography of Richard Burbridge that brilliantly nets the butterfly wings inspired collection. Captured are eye shadows that flit away at the corner of the eye, painstakingly painted eyelashes that relay the butterfly’s antenna in shades of coral, azure and golden yellow and brilliant flashes of dazzling nail colour that would attract any beautiful creatures. This is beauty photography as art.
The product is impressive. The exclusive new Stylo eyeshadow is easy to use, stroking on intense colour as easily as crayon. It’s high concentration of water gives a rich, creamy texture and a smooth feel. In tempting colours such as Black Stream, Moon River, Jade Shore, Pink Lagoon, Cool Gold and Blue Bay, these are women’s dream playthings. Choose whether to apply one bold streak of colour or let the imagination go wild in the country with clashing highlights.
Paint on mascara in waterproof shades of Lime Lights, Zest, Blue Note and Aqua Blue. Create the look of the season by wearing more than one shade at a time. Clashes create a cacophony of interest.
It is, however, the nail colours that have drawn gasps of instant admiration. Bel- Argus is a celestial radiant blue, quite unseen in any other brand while Azure merges deep blue and green like a calm ocean near a tropical shore. Lilis is a flat, intense coral that breathes Summer breeze and makes you long for idyllic beach days.
Chanel’s flirty, flighty L’Ete Papillon collection is easier to catch hold of than its fluttering creative inspiration but gives as much intense, colour packed joy.
