Who know’s why but for once, those dashing sorts at The Chap Olympiad rather pleased the weather Gods. They blessed us with the hottest day of the year sending Chaps & Chapesses into a quandary pre event re ditching the trad tweed and layers. But did this mean more flesh exposed like the nearby unwholesome wiles of Oxford Street, bastion of all that’s badly dressed? Non! The Chap and Sheridan Club stalwarts donned lightweight ’30’s chiffon, pristine cream and white linen, ’40s cotton dresses and obligatory hats and hair ornaments. There were even the appearance of ladies in original ’40s swimwear. If nothing, the sun brought out the best.
The gin and Pimms flowed at Bedford Square Gardens as games such as Umbrella Jousting, Parallel Bars (ie. cocktail bars), Bounder Hunt (where female contestants caught their man with huge butterfly nets) and Beach Volleyball. Where else would a Chas & Dave soundtrack have Chaps take to the stage to Cockney Walk to kickstart the event?
The event ended with the esteemed Mr Russell Nash taking the Gold Medal Chap award.
