Ask any women if she’s like to preview the new Guerlain make-up range and I’m quite certain 95% of them will whoop for joy. Guerlain is synonymous with refinement and class, of elegance and good taste. So when information (and a couple of samples) dropped through the door, who am I not to trial them?
This season’s theme features Natalia Vodionova wearing a dotted Swiss veil – there’s an air of intrigue and mystery as well as a glimpse of vintage styling with the covert threat of seduction. Her weaponry, of course, is the Guerlain Autumn 2013 collection with its lip colour, its four colour blush and vibrant coloured lacquer. The Rouge G De Guerlain lip colour (£31) is a swish and covetable item indeed. Reinvented by Olivier Echaudemaison and designed by Lorenz Baumer, this beautiful limited edition piece is adorned with a screen-printed dotted Swiss veil. Who wouldn’t notice this when pulled from a handbag for a quick touch-up with its large attached mirror? Three shades are available, Madame Batifole (a vibrant fuchsia), Madame Flirte (a fruity red) and Madame Reve (a voluptuous pink).
Then comes the blush for slightly dappled and fresh, glowing cheeks. The limited edition 4-colours blush (£42) is so-called due to its four luminous stripes of colour, all dotted white to replicate the Swiss veil. There’s pale pink to illuminate the cheekbones, coral for a peachy complexion, beige to create a velvety skin texture and raspberry for fresh, dappled cheeks. They can be used singularly or mixed depending on mood and occasion.
The Gloss d’Enfer collection (each priced £22) is Guerlain’s ode to a market obsessed with all things gloss and lips. The limited edition colours include Madame Batifole (a sparkling fuchsia), Madame Firte (a gourmand red) and Madame Fascine ( a deep, bruised purple). All are subtlely sparkling with a translucent syrup texture and can be worn on their own or layered over the Rouge G lip colour. Used in tandem with the new, make-up It-accessory for eyes, Guerlain’s 2 Colour Fusion Eyeshadow (£30), the look is deep and hinting at Madame X. There are eight version of these stunning duos ranging from mysterious green and dazzling black, deep blue and metallic grey to ebony brown and spicy coral. These matte intense pigment colours are pitched in sync to layer but can be used solely. Sweep across a cream kohl liner pencil to build more intrigue. (£18)
Guerlain’s Autumn 2013 collection is available from counters nationwide (including John Lewis, House of Fraser, Debenhams and Harrods) from 1st August 2013.
