Quick! The sun’s out! Time for an end of Summer indulgent post on the brilliant kitschy Karen Walker sunglasses that are fun and as New York stylish as her ‘Will & Grace’ namesake.
Worn by the likes of Beyonce, Anna dello Russo, Gwen Stefani and Dakota Fanning, these babies hardly need an excuse to be sported. As just everyone knows in fashion, shades should be sported or carried at all times. The larger the statement frame, the more it makes an impact. Or, hides a hangover. Something like that. And today sees the 2nd release of the Summer of Karen Walker’s 2013 collection.
The campaign shot by Derek Henderson is as joyful as the sunglasses brand and epitomises its humour and optimism.
Four models – Claudia, Tyler, Elise and Alice-Rose, aged between three and five, were photographed wearing Karen’s huge sunglasses to relay positivity and the boundless curiosity of children. Carefree and cute, these munchkins give good fashion face better than any Vogue model. “The idea of shooting kids as a follow up to first summer’s concept seemed obvious to us for many reasons. Kids and mature women are worlds apart in age but this group share a thread of optimism and happiness that excites us.” says Karen.
Walker’s trademark bold shapes and her futuristic use of materials once again combine to produce another thoroughly modern collection from Karen Walker Eyewear. The 8-piece capsule introduces a new direction in both form and colour while staying true to the style that have garnered a cult following across the globe.
Graphic white and gold metal frames with metallic blue reflective lenses deliver on this collection’s cartoon inspiration, whilst more subdued black frames with dark lenses continue to integrate the laser-cut filigree elements first seen in Karen Walker Jewellery. The four new styles – SIOUXSIE, UNDERGROUND, ROWDY and PEEK-A-BOO – are available in both colourways.
