I was just chatting with some people about dates – the man and woman kind not the dried fruit sort, when this very apt press release arrived. Spooky. There seems to be those types of women who love them and enjoy the anticipation and the build up, then there’s the normals. The women (and even men) who regard them as ‘something to be got through’ like a pelvic examination or an episode of an overacted Eastenders. Taxi, anyone?
Anyway, if you’re one of those who enjoy them or even have a regular other-half (stop boasting out there), then this could be very much up your street. The Strand’s One Aldwych is once again launching an Autumn season of their popular ‘Film & Fizz’ dinner and movie experience, in partnership with Lallier Champagne. The Film & Fizz experience offers diners the opportunity of enjoy a glass of Lallier Grand Réserve Champagne, watch a great film such as The Great Gatsby or Lincoln in the hotel’s private Screening Room and then go for a delicious three-course meal in Axis restaurant as a special Friday and Saturday evening out. Sounds good doesn’t it? Of course, it doesn’t have to be a date-night ‘thang’. It could be a girls-catching-up opportunity.
The Film & Fizz menus celebrate the best of British, simple and seasonal. Typical dishes on the menu from Executive Chef Dominic Teague include starters of Yorkshire game terrine, poached blackberries and gorse flowers and Roast Scottish scallops, apple and sea purslane, mains of Poached filet of plaice, truffle mash potato and pickled girolles and Duo of Denham Estate venison, butternut squash, thyme and red wine jus. Desserts include Dark chocolate tart with poached cherries and Vanilla cheesecake, mandarin and honeycomb.
One Aldywch have even thought ahead to Christmas offering Film & Fizz nights on weekends in December in Indigo restaurant and the Screening Room. Holiday classics such as It’s A Wonderful Life, White Christmas and Miracle on 34th Street will be shown, along with an indulgent seasonal dinner on Fridays and Saturdays and a tasty brunch on Sundays. Me, I’m opting for a camp evening with an equally camp friend at ‘Behind the Candelabra on 25th & 26th October.
There’s even a deluxe version that offers an overnight stay in the hotel (*clutches pearls*) that’s priced from £360 +VAT for two people sharing an Aldwych room including the dinner & movie experience and breakfast the following morning. The One Aldwych film & fizz nights are priced £47.50 per adult including VAT and excluding service charge. Friday and Saturday evenings in the Screening Room and Axis restaurant. Film & Fizz runs from 13th September through to 22nd December 2013.
