In 2009 Van Cleef & Arpels Haute Parfumerie released the Collection Extraordinaire, a range of monofloral compositions and a cologne. So, it’s more than pleasing to say that Van Cleef & Arpels have added another quite exquisite addition to this limited edition range of fragrances – Rose Velours. A modernist one-track rose with ultra fine hedonistic softness and a creamy, velvety texture that beguiles and bewitches from first spray.
Rose Velours’ sensuality is blatant with its warm caress of midday sun. It’s glint of lemony freshness like a squeeze of juice atop delicious heaps of rose petals only adds to its seduction. But this is modernist in its appearance and its make-up. It’s a layer of silken Rose Absolue wrapped around golden, amber, honey tones with a hint of soft, dry Iris for a powdered puff of sharpness. There’s a hint of violet leaves and some ravishing Benzoin to make this fragrance a delicious ‘find’ those who like their roses with panache and staying power.
What impresses is the sweet, golden honeyed tones to this choice perfume as well as its complicated floral layers (all shot through with Rose Absolue) that build and slay the wearer from the off. Rose Velours is a fine choice fragrance for a very refined yet modern woman.
Rose Velours is a limited edition release available from London Van Cleef & Arpels flagship stores. Eau de Parfum natural spray is £126 for 75ml.
