London is chock-a-block full of independent hair salons and salon chains but every now and a while one comes along that really makes an impression and that one is the new GUILD Hairdressing salon in King’s Road.
Neither catering to a chi-chi clientele largely seeking blonde highlights and even blonder, inch thick, VIP room carpets nor a so-hip-it-hurts East London abode that caters to the area’s enchants for quiffs or over long fringes and poker straight hair, GUILD strolls in, full of Gallic charm (many of its stylists are bona fide Frenchies) and allure, bridging the East-West London divide between hip and hauteur.
Having launched in Paris in 2011, GUILD Hairdressing is already drawing passing glances and attention (and that was just a few of us being pampered before the salon’s official opening last week) in the King’s Road. It’s easy to see why as the full front glass window offers a glance into top quality stylists whose personalities and look are as unique as the work GUILD Hairdressing hopes to become known. It’s a breath of fresh hair type of Antenna for the 21st Century. GUILD Hairdressing hopes to attract that bold customer, a customer who’s willing to take chances and go for that editorial look or colour, just as much as it wants to build a regular and localised clientele.
From my own experience where the talented and infectiously up-beat Sebastian made a deep auburn red for me that brought the life and vivacity back into my hair. (It was always there in my personality…honest!), GUILD Hairdressing seems to have an innovative and seductive approach to colour and style that has also helped place them at the fore of Parisian hairdressing.
The salon is modernist with white bubble seats, black marble flooring and a pair of colour therapy wash basins that’s constantly changing light soothes through closed eyelids as you like back and let the soothing hands of a stylist wash and condition your soon-to-be crowning glory. The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and, with the conversation bursting into French regularly, this salon makes an impression.
GUILD will work closely with their Paris-based flagship salon and with new emerging talents, from both the UK and beyond to ensure a steady flow of new ideas and approaches alongside expert skill. This hand-selected team of expert colour technicians and stylists of all backgrounds shows that these guys mean business as innovators and creators rather than followers of style. This is the salon that customers of a creative bent are bound to feel comfortable. Guild Get You.
With the seasoned expertise of Philippe Hostalery and Philippe Gentner at the helm and fabulous in-house brand including Shu Uemura, Redken, Davines, Ellis Fass Comfort Zone and Essie, this is one cool premium hair destination not to be missed.
