Just went I thought Jo Malone had hit a buffer (the new Limited Edition London Rain collection is a bit meh and samey watery weak), along they tip-toe in their luxurious cashmere bed socks and every so softly leave delectable candles in their wake. I’m speaking of the fabulous new ‘Just Like Sunday’ Home Candle collection that has been released by the brand in association with uber cool stylist, Charlotte Stockdale. The range takes advantage of every Brit who wants to be snuggled under a duvet for much of January, drinking tea, comfort eating and not outside braving the swathes of rain and gales currently bashing poor old Blighty.
Available from January 2014, there are four luscious candles in the range. I was sent (to experience) the Sweet Almond & Macaroon, which, although I’m not a gourmand fan by any means, is a sweet concoction of Bakewell Tart type sweet almond essence and a creamy coconut and cherry mix. It’s sweet and very homely indeed (the whole aim of the range) but, if push came to shove, my choice would definitely be the crisp, fresh and comforting Green Tomato Leaf which smells just like rubbing your fingers on a tomato plant leaf and sniffing. Fresh, bursting with life and flavour, it’s earthy, leafy and full of sunshine and potential. This stem-green galbanum tinged with fruity cassis & moss is tantalizingly tangy.
Hard on its heels would be my go-to safety fragrance, Incense & Ambers, for any time of year. This is a delectable, smoky, incense & amber fuelled breath with hints of napa leather, vetiver and white pepper. So gorgeous and just right for Saturday telly nights in.
Lavender & Lovage ends the ‘Just Like Sunday’ Jo Malone story with its crisp white air of clean fresh linen. Rosemary and thyme laced with an aniseed twist help this brisk lavender along.
The ‘Just Like Sunday’ collection may just be one of the brand’s most successful little ranges to date.
Each home candle (200g) is priced £39 each and available from Jo Malone stores and online.
