Victoria Beckham’s just moved up a notch in the sharp as hell, focused and flattering stakes. Where Victoria reigns, others will follow and fashion would be a finer place for it. The VB collection for AW’15 was as slick, laid-back and perfectly polished as the lady herself. It’s safe to say that she’s had her detractors over the years. Hell, I’ve had my doubts, but Ms Beckham is no pushover and like the man she snared, has staying power, professionalism and talent in droves.
Victoria’s secret is that she makes a series of luxury separates that fashion editors fight to wear as well as to feature. To lift thine eyes heavenwards is to trawl through Beckham’s multi storey lair in Dover Street, a swift click and clack of Acne heels away from PR canteen, The Wolseley.
The models strode the catwalk to Chinawoman’s ‘Party Girl’ and the message was clear. This ‘Party Girl’ means business.
Huge roll neck sweaters with dolman sleeves, voluminous side-tie knotted coats, asymmetric knit skirts, wide crop trousers and peek-a-boo skin-baring detailing were key as was the muted but ever so chic colour palette of grey marl, cream, black, white and ecru with a flash of subdued tangerine to add pow. There were equestrian touches in the buckles and strictness and chunky boots. This was Hermes for New Yorkers. Loewe for Manhattanites. Taste factor set to stun.
Intricate bias paneling and ultra feminine origami weave skirts ended the show before VB took her ever discreet bow. Class act.
