Tom Ford is a man who knows how to sell sexiness. Lordy! You only have to say his name and men and women alike are enraptured. He’s veritable catnip for fashion and beauty addicts.
This Summer’s big launch from Mr Ford is the beguilingly big white Summer breeze floral that smacks of sunsets and balmy evenings from Portofino to Nassau and is suitably named, Fleur de Portofino.
Part of the distinctive Private Blend ‘blue’ set of Tom Ford bottled fragrances such as Madarino di Amalfi, Costa Azzura and, of course, the famous Neroli de Portofino – that quenchy bergamot bite fragrance that people simply cannot get enough of, Fleur de Portofino offers a big bolt of difference with it’s floral largesse.
Whilst still having a very distinctive Summer vibe with its rush of bergamot and green citrus juices that simply squelch with aquatic appeal, Fleur de Portofino is quite the different animal from Neroli de Portofino and will appeal to a more feminine, sensual Boho type. This is a big fragrance indeed dressed up in aquatic beach tones with its feel of camelias in the hair whilst wearing floaty Chloe dresses. There’s a distinct 1970s ‘Studio 54’ goes to 2015 Cap Ferrat feel. All gold sandals, bronzed limbs and carefully beach toussled tresses. With mirrored aviator shades, natch . All the better to reflect the other beautiful people.
It’s the ‘fleur’ that brings the fabulosity to this release. Gargantuan osmanthus and sticky, black locust honeyed hotness, this is overflowing with overt creamy femininity and the sweet white haze of jasmine only adds to the mix. It is the laid back knock-you-off-your feet avalanche of white florals that hypnotises and has staying power. There is no getting away from it. Fleur de Portofino is the ultimate wealthy bohemian beach babe.
When the real-deal Queen of Boho, Joni Mitchell sang, “My fingernails are filthy, I got beach tar on my feet. And I miss my clean white linen and my fancy French cologne…”* she could have been speaking of this beaut. Skip forward forty something years and while Joni’s still as gorgeously relevant, Mr Ford has taken chicdom to beach babe living. Fleur de Portofino is the choice for the romantic urban sophisticate taking time out on the Med or Mustique. Or even sitting supping Summer cocktails in a hotel bar in New York or London. Rocking it like a star.
Fleur de Portofino comes in 50ml (£142) and 250ml (£330) Eau de Parfum and is available from selected Tom Ford counters from June 2015.
