Invited to try the new OSKIA London facial massage and treatment at premium hotel, One Aldwych, who could refuse? Throw in a couple of hours swimming and relaxing at One Aldwych’s hidden pool, sauna and steam room in the basement and it’s a near on perfect offer for a Monday afternoon in a hot July.
OSKIA London is the newest skincare range of products and treatments at One Aldwych, only just launched there in the last two weeks. Founded in 2009 by Georgie Cleeve and her husband, OSKIA London’s approach is based on using wholly natural products that work from both the inside and out. Cleeve uses the ‘beauty mineral’ MSM (which is anti-ageing active) in all of OSKIA’s products, nutritionally designed to improve skin’s condition both inside and outside.
I was to experience the Glow Facial – A 75 minute wonder treatment which caused me to completely drift off in its midst. This specialist facial used a combination of anti-ageing and glow-inducing techniques to illuminate skin and leave face, body and mind feeling rejuvenated and skin looking plumper and brighter, hydrated and toned. Described as a non-surgical facelift and performed on a warm water mattress to support the body (which I had to ask to be removed as a hot July day!), the facial consisted of specialised facial and eye contour massage techniques, lymph drainage and acupressure to lift, relax & contour the face and increase nutritional ingredient absorption into the skin. More than just a facial, the treatment also focused on hand, back and shoulder massage as part of the ritual.
The facial began with a cleanse using OSKIA’s light Renaissance Cleansing Gel product over face, neck and shoulders which was then followed by exfoliation using the Micro Exfoliating Balm containing micro silica and MSM granules to eliminate tired skin cells and impurities, as well as beauty-boosting nutrients. Each part of the facial included hot cloth wraps to allow the ingredients to penetrate before being removed and onto the next stage. At this point, my attentive therapist, Tatiana, examined my skin to check if any extractions were needed. The good news was that my skin was clean, tight, healthy and toned apart from slight dryness around the eye area. (I’m putting the vast improvement down to the soft Scottish water which is always a benefit).
Stage 3 of the treatment was by far my favourite as the innovative OSKIA London Rose de Mai skin-soothing massage candle wax was applied to the skin….not in a ‘50 Shades’ way, oh no. The therapist poured the warm, intoxicating smelling, candle wax into her palms and stroked this on face, neck and body. The rose de mai smell was heavenly. This was allowed to sink in and with the application of fragrant steam before being removed with hot towel wraps. It was blissful.
Following this, the OSKIA Renaissance Mask was applied and then OSKIA London’s rich Nutri-Active day cream as well as Eye Wonder gel around my dry skin eye area. The end result was healthier, glowing, plumped up skin that I’m still seeing some 12 hours later.
The treatment was topped off by a post-facial cocktail in the bar. One Aldwych have cleverly created the Rose de Mai cocktail to echo OSKIA London’s fragrant ingredient. The cocktail comes topped with petals and is a palest pink, not too sweet mix of Fair vodka, rose liqueur, Koko Kanv, lemon juice, rice syrup with 3 kaffir lime leaves. One of the nicest newbie cocktails I’ve tasted in a long time.
