Rosie Assoulin’s Statement Sportswear for SS’16

by Katie on September 12, 2015

I’ve just stumbled across Rosie Assoulin, not a designer I’m overly familiar. This season, pics popped up on rolling social media forms from #NYFW and Assoulin’s point of difference is, well, being different from the reams of New York’ish simlicity. Contra traditionalist, Assoulin seems to play with her layered and trompe l’oeil pieces that takes sportswear into statement dressing and vice versa.

Particularly streetwear glamazon were the long, draped, funnel-sleeved crop tops paired with ultra voluminous, ballgown skirt pants and the stitched mid-knee combat cut-offs worn mis-matched with voluminous ball-gown type tops. Then there were the strappy wrap bikini worn over shirts and paired with track pants. It was loose, relaxed but ultra expressive. Street style taken to the max.

Assoulin played clever. By bringing in swimwear and low cut combats, the juxtaposition and surrealism belied the intelligence in appealing to West Coast girls as well as Native New Yorkers.

Assoulin’s intelligent play with humour and structure will win her new fans. All she needs is a few hip indie celebs to sport this uptown sportswear and her name will be further elevated.
