Today’s Armani Prive show was held in Place Vendome. It appears that times they are a changing. Couture clients are coming back, but venues for shows appear to be smaller.

The ice blonde Carmen Kass opened Armani’s Prive show clad in a soft oatmeal coloured kick pleat skirt suit with a swooshy cape to be followed by row upon row of sleek blondes that spelled upper East side chic. A smooth start to a show that epitomised Armani’s couture day wear and threw up a few surprises re evening wear.

Daphne Guinness sat front row wearing diamonds in her hair and clad in a white satin corset that minimised her waist to that of a girl’s, while scattered (like diamonds) alongside her were celebrities Claudia Cardinale, Claire Danes and Olivia Palermo.

Daywear was structured, smooth and sometimes, effortlessly draped with kicky feminine skirts that fell just below the knee and had shades of glitter wool that glinted. It must require virtually no effort to wear day wear this lightweight. Like the shining haired blondes of Armani, these clothes glide through life.

Tailoring as ever, is Mr Armani’s forte and his razor sharp beautiful clean lines helped show the curves of the blonde models and the class of the cut with aplomb. But that didn’t stop him going to town as floor length glitter sheaths in shades of muted camel and bronze strode the catwalk later in the show.

A brilliant short sleeve (day wear) dress was gathered at the hip, pinned with a button brooch. Sharply tailored chocolate brown suits and day wear with large toggle button details appeared. A biscuit coloured sharply cut jacket was worn with nude pants. A camel coat was the perfect vision of Armani with is folds and sophisticated drape at the neckline.

Smart houndtooth suits with kick pleat skirts were the epitome of Armani while softly falling, silk drape jackets in nude with a bleached chocolate below the knee skirt must have 5th Avenue ladies gasping. These are outfits for classy uptown ladies to blend into the scenery not stand out.

My favourite was a cream strapless dress with belt and soft overcoat thrown over the shoulders. Chic to the ‘nth when paired with a large clutch.Tightly swathed taupe dresses were a gift for the hyper executive woman.

The strapless gowns with huge folds from the bust in black and mink were a vision of class. A chocolate, shimmering, strapless gown fell in heavy, asymmetric folds while embellished strapless caramel sheaths glided down the catwalk in heavy satin. Low cut sexy crossover backless dresses helped emphasis the blondes’ shimmy. However, when the versions in soft wool arrived, it was a dichotomy too far.

Sprinkled with diamonds, the simple sheaths were outstandingly Armani. Let’s face it, we think ‘Beyonce’ and Armani’s ‘Diamonds’ with such displays of scattered jewels. Both strapless and long sleeved sheaths (sometimes with corsage highlights) appeared in glitter bronze, pewter and gold.

As simple as Armani does, the Prive collection is a wealthy executive’s dream. Blending in with classic muted tones. It’s what Armani does best.

I absolutely adore that suit, it has a definitely 40’s noir vibe to it. Wow!
