Chutzpah’s Weekly Barometer

by Katie on July 23, 2010

A light hearted look back over the past week’s good, bad and indifferent including the “don’t even go there’s”.

Mount Street, W1 Love this niche shopping area. Designer stores aplenty; Scotts, The George and Jo Hansford/Nicky Clarke. Feels a bit like the best village high street.

Inception What a movie. Who would dare to dream now, huh?

The new Burberry make-up range A bit natty classic Burberry with shades that work their muted elegant best.

Apartment C’s panty party service Cool lingerie store, Apartment C, is hosting a ‘panty party service’ for hen nights or girl get togethers with a difference. Select from Romantic Readings, Blind Food Tastings, Lingerie Trunk Shows, Gin cocktails or eyelash bar and mini manicures all with a resident DJ. 90 minuute private packages start from £250. For more details contact Apartment C, 70 Marylebone High St, London W1.

Kids with unbrushed, matted hair Especially prevalent amongst the Kensington priveleged classes. What is it with sending kids to school looking as if they’d been dragged through a hedge backwards? Is it the ‘status symbol’ de jour? (NB. See ‘Outnumbered’ for examples). I’m sure if that happened in less affluent areas, the kids would be being checked for due care and attention and what’s more, nits.

Inter city train travel within the UK So expensive, stressful and third world standard. Just plain embarrassing.

Who wins the Mercury Music Prize Isn’t it always music journos impressing each other with their stellar choices anyway?
