Chutzpah’s Weekly Barometer

by Katie on October 29, 2010

A light hearted look back over the past week’s good, bad and indifferent including the “don’t even go there’s”.

‘Later with Jools Holland’ (BBC2)  Always a brilliant mix of artists that always introduces me to someone new.  Love it as much as I did ‘The Old Grey Whistle Test’.  Now, if only *that* would come back.

The Dior Minaudiere  All that glistens may not be true gold but may, actually, be the epitome of drop dead glamma. Just how beautiful is this piece and just how much do I want to own one?

So delectable and so Dior, this reeks of chic.  Inside, it has everything you need to Dior decorate lips and eyes.  For eyes a harmony of three eye shadows embossed in the famous Dior houndstooth pattern and for lips, tow wearable shades are concealed within a discreet gold case.  Available in two shades:  Grey golds and Pink golds.  Limited Edition, £59.  Available nationwide from 1st November.

Bodicea the Victorious scented candles  Michael Boadi has added candles to match each of the 19 scents in his fragrance range including Powerful, Divine, Complex, Seductive, Alluring and Noble.  The glass sheaths feature subtle graduating colours, each selected to match the mood of the fragrance and have a burn time of 50 hours.  If Bodicea’s good enough for Michelle Obama, la Kate Moss and Ms Madonna then it’s good enough for la Chutzpah.  Exclusively available from Selfridges.  (£42/27cl)

O.P.I’s Burlesque Christmas collection  The bold Burlesque collection is inspired by the upcoming film of the same name, starring Christina Aguilera and Cher.  There are 12 shades, six shimmers and 6 glitters, which will hit the shelves this October.  As we can expect from O.P.I, these fantabulous sparkle colours take nail colours to the next level with brilliant names:  Rising Star, Shimmer and Glimmer, The Show Must Go On, Take The Stage and Let Me Entertain You.  Brilliant pinks, oranges, bronzes, coppers and reds   £9.95 each from

The Electric Proms  I really should get my act together and get along to these one day.

Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser  I have long wanted to try this product as I have always used heavier foundations for even coverage.  The tint on this oil free foundation is more than a hint and gives good coverage with a smooth, sheeny finish.  Just right for work and my ‘non vintage clothing wearing’ days and a new boon to my make up collection.  (£32)  Available from

This week  Stressed, harassed and with jangled nerves.  Just horrible.  I should  have hidden under a duvet.  Roll on next week…

That awful bright pink and leopard print anorak that Bianca wears on ‘Eastenders’  Please bin immediately.

If I ever see a cupcake again  Champagne and canapes are the way forward dahling…

Who wins ‘X Factor’  (ITV)  They’re all rubbish
