Dolce & Gabbana’s Secret Garden collection for Spring 2011

by Katie on January 5, 2011

The Secret Garden.  Nope, nothing to do with Frances Hodgson Burnett’s beginning of the 20th Century tale of childhood friendship nor of a massive, secret, underground, themed party but instead it’s the name of Dolce and Gabbana’s new range of delicate Spring ’11 colours that launches beginning of February.  Inspired by Stefano Gabbana’s native Sicily, he says, “We’ve always been inspired by the lush gardens so unique to Sicily; they’re like a secret paradise.  The aura of romance – the intoxicating wild flowers, the soft pastels – is such an integral part of our heritage and our aesthetic.”

It’s a make-up seasonal range that’s pretty as well as sensual, more than overtly passionate.  Soft shades of pink, green, turquoise, lilac and silver grey make for a more refined and approachable Scarlett Johansson.  Lying on a white bed with hints of delicate lace curtain, she’s hinting and toying with the viewer.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of their business, Dolce and Gabbana showed a completely white and off white Spring 2011 collection that was a triumph.  Based on a bride’s ‘hope chest’ and items she may pack for the rest of her married life, the collection comprised treasures of chiffon, tulle, net and lace with oft broderie anglaise strips and for evening white crystals – sublime.  What better way to accompany such a collection than with an equally as captivating collection of sweet rose pastel shimmer lips in colours such as Love (a soft, day, light, sheeny, pink) and Romance.  The focus is on the eyes.  In this range, make-up artists, Pat McGrath, concentrated on a bewitching and mysterious mix of muted lavender, green-blue and the cool neutrals of Eden (a new quad shadow) comprising of pastel greens, pink and white.  New eyeliners in White and Lilac define the eye with the softest touch.  Modern beauty indeed.

Luxurious and luminous, the colours shimmer and speak of longer, sunnier, Spring days and lighter clothes.  Finish off the look with Dolce and Gabanna’s silver grey Platinum nail shade for a cool, chic touch.

In deepest, darkest January, new uplifting Spring colours like these provide a little lift to the beauty soul.
