New! Burberry Summer for Women

by Katie on March 30, 2011

I‘ll launch straight into this one with the fact that I always look forward to receiving information on Burberry.  Their make-up range is sublime but so far, they’ve yet to get me on board with their fragrance offer.

This time of year throws up a whole host of fragrance launches and naturally, capitalising on this lucrative market is Burberry who are launching Limited Edition Summer fragrances for both men and women, both subtly featuring the degrade frosted Burberry check on the sophisticated glass bottles.

Perfumer, Lucas Sieuzac’s inspiration was to capture the tranquil mood of a British Summer morning.  (Obviously, not for those London based or using the tube system mid Summer, then!).  Glib joking aside, I can see where he’s coming from as Burberry Summer for Woman is a light, wispy, relaxed affair that’s not big and blousey and in your face like a lot of ‘fresh’ Summer florals but is gentle, uplifting and faintly fruity without being an over-the-top Carmen Miranda type fruit fest.
There’s a lovely soft veil of woodiness that’s at the base composed of the cedar wood, sandalwood and white musk that provides a cushion for the light floral rose, freesia and lily of the valley heart of the fragrance.  However, earthy woody ingredients are thoroughly light as a combination of these at full volume would swamp the sparkling pomegranate with orange, mandarin and green leaf top notes.

The feel is light, gentle and, of course, the over used, ‘fresh’.  It’s not ever going to be the most memorable of fragrances and distinctive it isn’t but if you want to opt for a pretty, light, pleasant Summer fragrance that won’t overpower and will deliver a spritz of British early Summer freshness, then look no further – you may just have found your Summer scent.

Burberry Summer for Women and Men will be available on counters from April 2011.  Burberry Summer for Women EDT Natural Spray 100ml – £33.00

I like Burberry London for Men BUT 1. It dissipates fairly rapidly, and 2. The bottle is a shocker.
