Dolce and Gabbana’s Rich Jewel like palette for Autumn ’11

by Katie on October 2, 2011

So, in this unprecedented heatwave that we’re having in the UK in October with two days already at 29 and 30 degrees respectively, my thoughts (unnaturally) turn to Autumn make-up. I should pre-warn all readers and I make no apologies, hailing from ‘up North’ and being blue/white in skin tone, my preference is for Wintery snowy days, fires, tingling hands thawing and the countdown to Christmas.

To get me in the mood for the oncoming season, I turn to one of my favourite brands, Dolce & Gabbana, for inspiration. D&G’s appeal is not only the gold glitz glamour of the sleek packaging but the fact that the colours are always reliably intense, fit the fashion season perfectly (never out of kilter) and the lipsticks always have real depth of colour, are matte in feel and are soft and textured but don’t go to mush within a week’s wear.  In short, they are a grown-up choice to rival YSL, Guerlain and Chanel.

The glamorously opulent and powerfully exuberant palette of the new Precious Stones Collection for Autumn ’11 is a result of make-up maverick Pat McGrath’s collaboration with Dolce&Gabbana and evokes the intense heat and passion of the designers’ Sicilian roots.

The sumptuous shades are a reflection of the embellished extravagance showcased at Domenico and Stefano’s A/W’11 catwalk show.

“Imagine a girl gazing into a jewellery box and the reflected glow of all those gem stones and precious metals, the way they cast light, bringing luminosity to the skin in the most spellbinding way? Well, that’s exactly what we’re doing with the make up,” says Pat McGrath of the inspiration behind the collection.
Purples, mauves and mink shades are deliciously tempting. Purple Pearl lipstick (£22) is Goth enough without being either Camden town or Victorian melodrama while the deep Plum Sapphire shade (£22) is a great ‘day’ lipstick that’s suitably strong without scaring the business horses. The deeply sexy Mauve Diamond blush (£29) is rich and boldly brilliant for pale skins while the eyeshadow quad in ‘Jewels’ (£36.50) are subtly gorgeous tones that work for both day on evening depending on how heavily they are applied.

All we have to do is now wait for colder weather. It’ll come soon enough.

The Precious Jewels range features 13 new products. The Dolce&Gabbana Autumn Make-Up Collection is now available exclusively at Harrods and
