Penhaligons new Juniper Sling

by Katie on October 5, 2011

Intensified somewhat by hot weather, Penhaligons newest fragrance, Juniper Sling, is like diving into an icy cool swimming pool part tinged with gin and fresh lime.  One can almost imagine the ‘slice of lime’ lilos drifting enticingly. Like a Hollywood version of the epitome of Britishness, this newbie manages to entrance and charm in equal measure, like the perfume equivalent of a Julie Andrews or Kate Winslet.

Immediately uplifting, Juniper Sling manages to both cool and quench the thirst, making one head for the nearest bar for a sharp stiffener. Created for Penhaligon’s by Master Perfumer Olivier Cresp, Juniper Sling is a part homage to the ‘Bright Young Things’ of London’s roaring ’20s and part homage to The Empire’s infatuation with London Dry Gin and the tipple that’s now the ‘de rigeur’ choice for middling gentleman or gentlewoman for that matter.  This smells of English cool, of drinks on the lawn, of Margo Leadbetter and of MPs swigging drinks liberally in their downtime.
Crisp, cool and begging for your attention, this is a wake-up call when flagging but best not to be applied too liberally when *ahem* in a delicate state. Juniper is at its heart as we’d expect but its the cool measures of angelica and brandy and a beating libertine heart of black pepper, cardamom, soft leather and orris that help this intoxication march to the beat. A rich base of brown sugar, black cherry and amber add a somewhat muted sensuality to the scent which can easily be worn by both sexes.

Now where did I put my drink?

Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling Eau de Toilette 50ml £78 and 100ml £110. Juniper Sling is available in Penhaligon’s boutiques, concessions and online at
