Selfridges Launches The Film Project with FashArt party.

Selfridges, always at the cutting edge of art and fashion, launched The Film Project with a party that managed to be both astoundingly hip and lavish while whetting the fashart appetite of those attending.

Guests included Ann Demeulemeester, An & Filip from A.N Vandevorst, Henry Holland and Gareth Pugh alongside the great and the good of both fashion and art industries.

“We commissioned these films to celebrate the opening of our new Women’s Designer Galleries. The brief to the designers was very open – the only stipulation was that there was a strong female character at the centre of each film. We wanted each designer to freely express their vision of a woman who they found captivating and inspiring,” said Alannah Weston, Creative Director of Selfridges.

Giant group beds in white chiffon trailing ‘rooms’ had films projected onto the ceiling so you lay back and took in the view, reclining prostrate. This was distinctly easier at the beginning of the evening rather than the end as I suspected a few of my fellow guests and I just wanted to snuggle down there and then following a few tumblerfulls of champagne.

The Film Project showcases some of the most exciting creative talent in international fashion featuring short films from Ann Demeulemeester, A.F Vandevorst, Alexander McQueen, Comme des Garcons, Dries van Noten, Rick Owens and Gareth Pugh.  Each film interprets the essence of a modern woman: sophisticated, intelligent, confident, stylish, strong and feminine.

This is well worth taking in, based at the Old Selfridges Hotel (entrance on Orchard Street, W1) as it’s really quite something (as the set was created by award winning set designer, Simon Costin) and is also FREE until 25th March 2012.  Inspiring as well as fun.  See the Dries Van Noten film below and the Alexander McQueen film above:-
