Oliver Sweeney & Oliver Proudlock Celebrate Collaboration in Harvey Nichols

Oliver Proudlock

It always seemed to me a strange collaboration – Oliver Sweeney’s hand-made leather loafers,  a brand so respected within the industry, teaming with a newbie t-shirt & jeans brand, Serge deNimes owned by Oliver Proudlock (yes, him, the sweet bespectacled one from Made in Chelsea). Seeing the hoards of just-out-of-Uni, shiny haired, smiley Fulhamites gathered together in Harvey Nichols basement last Tuesday, to celebrate this union, I suddenly got the relevance. Here was Oliver Sweeney, generally the domain of the over ‘40s gentleman about town suddenly joined-at-the-hip with Proudlock, his reality TV famous mates and his fans (and all those wanting to emulate them). The shoe brand suddenly just got hip and relevant to a whole new bunch of West London consumers who like to party.

I’m being rather disingenuous as the Tijuca cheetah chukka boots, the electric blue suede and the black leather Nox Pardus hi-tops suddenly looked ‘right’ worn by that mix of well-heeled youth and with the added bonus of being sported by the more East London grimy, edgy indie and rap star brigade.

The party was packed to the brim with GHD’d blow-out haired girls in teetering heels with too-red lips and well-scrubbed respectable boys in Serge deNimes t-shirts al looking like central casting for ‘Made in Chelsea’, of which there were many.

Even Made in Chelsea’s end of season party host, Rick Edwards, was present, swamped in girls tossing their hair and flirting nonchalantly while musicians strolled on and off set (Matt Woods, Rufio Summers, Wet Wipez and Mikill Pane. Familiar ‘Made in Chelsea’ faces’ Rosie Fortescue, Spencer Matthews (who charmingly ‘Blue Steeled’ especially for me)  Lucy Watson, Louise Thompson and Hugo Taylor all attended to toast their friend’s success.
