Team beauty at Dolce & Gabbana can pat themselves firmly on the back with the release of the beautifully presented and well-executed in terms of colour, balance and texture ‘Summer Shine’ collection for 2015.
I make no secret about being a huge fan of the Dolce & Gabbana make-up collection: it’s slick gold packaging, it’s luxury handle, it’s matte textured lipsticks that have a huge variety of intense shades and the beautiful pale shades (always a problem for blue white skin) of liquid and creamy foundation, the latter being a particular favourite.
This season, Dolce & Gabbana have released the most stunning collection of shades that manage to balance to out-there with the everyday. Inspired by the intense blue of Sicilian ceramic tiles and of the Mediterranean sea and sky, the range is a sun-kissed Dolce Vita.
New to the range (and there’s a LOT new in this range) is the flawless glow illuminating powder in ‘Luna’ (£36) which helps create light and luminosity while an existing blush (in apricot – £33) gives a gentle healthy glow that’s just the right amount of subtle intensity.
The eye palettes are the right shade of fashion meets function with a whole heap of 1970s glam thrown in. The colour duo (Summer 104 – £33) comprises a pale sky blue paired with a matte fuchsia that’s bolder than the average shadow. Think Marissa Berenson or Grace Coddington in their late 1970s model heyday. The quad eye palette (£42) is another beast entirely with four shades that totally work day to evening: pink, nude and two different browns.
The focus on lips is an orange with a golden sheen or a vibrant, transparent red. New to this, however, is a bleak yet thrillingly modernist pale, iridescent blue which is almost ‘60s Courreges in style and smacks of the classic 1960s’ movie ‘Blow-up’, based on photographer David Bailey. This shade is a definite must-have for all make-up junkies if only to experiment with! (Lipsticks are priced £25.50 each).
Nails have four new shades of wondrousness (priced £20 each). I’ve tried two already, the peachy soft pastel orange and the Summery red. The peachy orange is sublime with its matt meets gloss finish. One of my favourite shades of recent months. The red, is of course, the signature Dolce & Gabbana shade of Sicilian hotness. Joining these two, are a nude lilac shade (also new) and a beautiful pale blue that befits the range’s influence.
Summer Shine is a genuine winner with lots of new for make-up aficionados to thrill at.
The Dolce & Gabbana Summer Shine 2015 collection is available exclusively in Harrods.
