DSquared2’s WANT. You will.

I have to say, this surprised me and somewhat delighted me from the off.

First, there was that uber striking design. Contemporary, bulbous, tactile, in-your-face, in a beautifully tasteful, Pierre Cardin’esque way. The gold and cream fitting together effortlessly in a an early ‘70s disco haze of Charlie-like (the fragrance, not the other stuff) reminiscence.

Then there’s the name, WANT. Gloriously and gregariously defiant and hedonistically capitalist in its paean to an X Factor generation hell-bent on instantaneous or rather, Instagram fame or infamy, wanting attention and glory NOW. It all fits with DSquared2’s quirky, youthful, sexy, dynamic and rebellious approach to fashion.

Want began with an idea about a woman, a woman who is of the moment because she is indefinable, she’s feminine but she’s also loyal, fun, stylish, and impulsive, she has many sides to her personality. She’s determined it makes her exciting, authentic and sexy. She is today’s Dsquared2 woman,” say Dan and Dean Caten, designers and founders of Dsquared2.

Working with sexy creative perfume maestro, Aurelién Guichard, helped give the fragrance its life and edge. Effortlessly effervescent. DSquared2’s WANT sparkles with spices such as ginger and pink pepper in its top notes, quenched with mandarin for juiciness. It’s the juxtaposition that works, to my mind. It’s neither too sweet nor samey but with an added bolt of difference. Yes, this is undoubtedly a mass market fragrance set to capture the hearts of alternative indie youth but it’s lively, lovely and fun.

Rose Damescena, heliotrope and neroli accents give a sensuous feminine kick while the dry down warms to both vanilla absolute and Madagascar vanilla with a hint of violet wood. It’s the latter that makes the fragrance jolt and just that little bit outré and different. Like a fragrance ever so slightly jaded and worn after a long night out. Perfect for SQuared2’s glam clubby approach. The campaign, shot by esteemed fashion photographers, Inez and Vinoodh exemplifies this energy further. Surprising in its design and make-up and infectious in its delivery.
